Twenty-three Taiwan Excellence-awarded brands, from gaming giants to AI and medical-tech makers, have set up shop at Taiwan Expo 2026 in Manila with one message: the next wave of technology should be easy, safe and made for everyday Filipinos.

Under the theme "Empowering a Smarter Future," the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) turned its pavilion into more than a product display. It mixed AI talks, creator workshops, celebrity tours and pop-culture collaborations into one experience, signaling how Taiwan plans to win Philippine audiences: with technology that people can see, try and enjoy.

The "Oscars of Taiwanese industries" comes to town

Taiwan Excellence is the Ministry of Economic Affairs' product award, running since 1993. Entries are judged on R&D, design, quality and marketing, and must carry real "Innovative Value" and a Made-in-Taiwan credential.

Brian Lee, Executive Director of TAITRA's Strategic Marketing Department, put it plainly: "For those discovering Taiwan Excellence for the first time, it represents the very best innovation from Taiwan and is often described as the Oscars of Taiwanese industries."

The Manila lineup spans computing, digital infrastructure, healthcare, mobility, consumer electronics and smart living. Names include Acer, Asus & ROG, MSI, Gigabyte, D-Link, Zyxel Networks, Transcend, Team Group and AiSeed, alongside industrial and medical specialists such as Aetina, Syntec Technology, Heartway Medical Products and Litemax Electronics.

Where technology meets culture and creativity

The pavilion treated technology as something to experience, not just specs on a shelf. Visitors followed a Pavilion Journey Card, collecting 10 stamps for a wooden jeepney collectible, and played games such as Myth or Facts, Tech Vlogger, Win-telligence Mystery Box and Power Up Hop. A boba tea Happy Hour kept the crowd moving.

Actress and content creator Ivana Alawi toured the Pavilion, interacting with participating brands and exploring featured technologies firsthand.

Creativity took center stage in the Fu Bear x Quiccs collaboration, which blended Taiwanese and Filipino pop culture. Content creator and Actress Ivana Alawi, who toured the pavilion, framed the appeal: "Technology should be easy to use, simple, and, most importantly, make our lives easier. The technologies being showcased here are also designed with safety and health in mind." Actress Dimples Romana and esports figure Eric Redulfin, known as the "Godfather of Esports," also joined the tours.

On the learning side, Aetina, Team Group, Zyxel Networks, Jian Ling Technology and Sauber Technology gave product talks. Two workshops targeted working Filipinos directly: "AI Generalist: A Strategic Roadmap" with Jay Ortiz of DarkSide Studio, and "Buy Back Your Time" with Jesse Tan of PC Express.

On the final day, actress and Taiwan Excellence ambassador Dimples Romana explored the Pavilion’s featured technologies and interactive experiences while engaging with participating brands.

Why it matters for Philippine builders

For Filipino founders and tech workers, the expo is a window into how a neighboring innovation economy markets itself. Taiwan's strength in hardware, semiconductors-adjacent components and industrial computing sits next to a consumer playbook of creators, games and culture-led storytelling.

The workshop lineup also shows where the conversation is heading. A session on becoming an "AI generalist" and another on reclaiming time point to a market that wants practical skills and productivity, not only gadgets. For startups, that means partnership openings in edge AI, networking, memory and storage, and healthcare devices, plus a lesson in pairing product with community.

The takeaway

Taiwan Expo 2026 is less a trade booth than a statement of intent: Taiwan wants a lasting relationship with Filipino users, makers and creators. For the Philippine startup scene, the opportunity is to meet that investment with local ideas, whether as partners, integrators or challengers building on the same technologies.
